Uxmal: House of the Doves

In the next little while, I’ll be posting sets from each of the Mayan archeology sites I’ve visited over the past few years in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. I’ve shot so many frames and spent countless hours amongst these amazing ruins, it’s time to edit down a proper collection for each. Here’s a teaser, from Uxmal in the Puuc region of Mexico. The House of the Doves (El Palomar) sits west of the Great Pyramid, itself one of many impressive structures in Uxmal. While I’ve seen a number of the showpiece Mayan sites, something about the grandeur, unique architecture and having the place mostly to yourself make Uxmal a top choice to visit. That and the iguanas perched everywhere on this ancient masonry. Much more to come!

Uxmal, Yucatan, Mexico, 2008.
