Sweet Leaf

davidniddrie_birkenhead_bigyellowleaf-3254

Heading back into the woods for a few nights in search of fungus, fire, photos and fantastic fallen leaves! A few years back in Birkenhead, our campsite was littered with gigantic yellow leaves…some of the largest, most perfectly in tact specimens seen in these woods. Aside from autumnal decomposition, the wild mushrooms should be abundant, the rivers azure and the night sky crisp and star-filled – perfect for a Thanksgiving weekend in the woods.

Birkenhead, British Columbia.

Bicycle Portrait: Ryan Leech

Following up with the Yoga for the City Rider series, here’s pro mountain biker Ryan Leech for Momentum Mag #63. When he’s not performing trials shows with the Norco Factory Team around the world, Ryan teaches yoga and coaches athletes in transitional times. I met Ryan down at CRAB Park in Vancouver on a beautiful summer morning and he demonstrated some moves specific to cyclist’s needs. He was sporting a really interesting Coyle helmet fashioned out of Arbutus burl and made to order in Corvalis, Oregon. You’ll find both Ryan and Charlotte, our other Yogi, continuing the series in the next few issues.

Portrait: Gasper

davidniddrie_portrait_gasper_keremeos-7973-

Gasper picks heirloom tomatoes in the fields of Keremeos, BC. This shot is from a trip to the Similkameen Valley earlier this summer, sleeping under the apricot trees and helping out at Parsons Farm Market in Canada’s ‘Fruit Stand Capital’. The heirlooms were just coming in this week, and I documented some of the dozens of varieties the farm was growing this year. Here’s one — a spiked tomato plant. Pretty cool, right?  I’ll have another collection of heirloom shots coming up soon. I took a few portraits of the seasonal pickers as well, as I do every year. You may also recognize Gasper from the #tintoport mobile shots I made at the same time: 1 and 2.
