Tour de Fat Festival – Los Angeles
New Belgium Brewing presents the traveling Tour de Fat Festival in 15 North American cities over the summer months. I was in Long Beach for a number of bike-related activities, when it was discovered the Tour de Fat was just up in LA that weekend. Perfect! They said it was one of the hottest days on record in LA , and I believe it, but that didn’t stop myself and the Momentum crew from riding, taking three trains and walking through the heat to the L.A. State Historic Park in downtown Los Angeles. A day of music, bicycles and beer in a carnivalesque setting with side shows, live music, games and more. All proceeds from these events go to local bicycle advocacy groups, like LA’s Bike Kitchen, among others. The comedy/hip-hop/science fiction act Ssssnakenstein was hilariously awesome, soon to be followed by Venezuela’s Los Amigos Invisibles who really have it going on. Great event, and I’d be sure to check it out again when I’m in the area. Maybe Fort Collins next time…
